RAG Austria AG is Austria’s largest energy storage company, and one of Europe’s leading gas storage facility operators.
Our focus is on storage, conversion and demand based conditioning of energy in the form of gaseous energy carriers.
With storage capacity of around 6.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas, the company operates around 6 per cent of all gas storage capacity in the EU. A large proportion of the underground natural gas reservoirs developed by RAG have already been converted into energy storage facilities capable of making the stored energy available at any time and at high capacity. In doing so, RAG is realizing the vision of ‘sustainable energy mining’ – defined as the long-term, resource-conserving reuse of existing reservoirs – and thereby making a decisive contribution to strengthening the security of supply in Austria and Central Europe.
The company also develops leading edge energy technologies related to green gas that partner renewables. This is enabling RAG to play a vital role in attaining Austria’s ambitious climate goals, and in the sustainable stewardship of the country’s raw material and energy supplies.
